John started his career in engineering with a fifteen month industrial placement during his fourth year at Paisley University as a Control Systems Engineer at Scomagg. He was involved in the design and installation of control systems for the Nuclear, Water, Hydro-Electric and Manufacturing sectors.
After leaving University in 1997, John worked for MacDonald Air Tools which specialised in the design, manufacture and maintenance of pneumatic tools. He was primarily responsible for the electrical and electronic installation and maintenance of the diverse machinery within the factory which ranged from pre-war hand lathes to modern CNCs and included maintenance of their hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
In 1999 John moved to take up the role of Acquisition Consultant/Electrical Engineer with Patrick Farfan Associates where he was responsible for the legal negotiation and design of Orange telecommunication sites in Scotland. After two years John moved to work directly with Orange as a Radio Frequency Network Planner. In this role he was responsible for the site selection, coverage and capacity of the Orange network in the West of Scotland and North West of England.
In 2008 John moved to take up the role as Commercial Manager at Mono Consultants. In addition to bid and commercial work, he project managed the WiFi and Cellular network installations in the Glasgow Underground and the installation and testing of the Scottish Resilience (Fire and Rescue Service) Mobilisation system to every fire station in Scotland. In 2009, John moved into a new role of Operations Manager for the Network Support Services division of Mono, primarily responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of the Emergency Services Tetra Network. John also managed the Sheffield Pilot Radio Access Network refresh project for Huawei, ultimately delivering GSM, UMTS and LTE capabilities on the Vodafone network.
John joined Hawkins in early 2012, and is handling the investigation of fires and explosions as well as engineering losses.
John is currently an Associate based in our Glasgow office.
