MA MEng Engineering (Electrical)
MIET Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology
After completion of his Electrical Engineering degree at Peterhouse, Cambridge, Simon spent several years researching high power, high speed outdoor optical wireless communication systems with the University of Cambridge. This research focused mainly on increasing the modulation speed of the laser by etching patterns into the laser and overcoming the dispersion issues caused by scintillation.
Following his time in research, Simon worked for TWI as a technical abstractor of engineering papers. In this role he prepared papers for entry into the largest European database of such publications. He also worked for Gardiner Associates Training & Research (GATR) aiding in the instrumentation of compartment fire scenes for use in training fire investigators.
During his time in research and as an abstractor Simon has also supervised over 200 undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge in various engineering topics ranging from digital and linear circuits to power systems.
Simon joined Hawkins in 2013 and is currently an Associate based in our Cambridge office.
