Experience

Matthew began his engineering career as a Design Engineer for steering wheel manufacturer, Breed Steering Systems, before completing a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing Systems at Bristol University.

He continued his role during the holiday periods throughout his degree and on completion in 2001 he moved to a Project Engineer role at MG Rover Group. Working in the Interior Trim department, it was Matthew's responsibility to complete component engineering tasks as well as manage external engineering consultants working on vehicle interior projects.

In 2003 Matthew left this role to pursue a further Masters Degree in Automotive Design at Coventry University. In 2004 he joined Honda UK in Swindon in a Validation Engineering role. In this position it was Matthew's responsibility to complete validation, performance analysis and systematic testing programmes for several hundred vehicle components. This required a strong yet broad understanding of manufacturing techniques, and test tracks across Europe.

A further responsibility in this role was the introduction of components to the production line and the remedial activities associated with assembly problems. This often involved working for a solution in real time as the vehicles were being produced. Later in Matthew's time at Honda, he became responsible for the validation and performance testing of vehicle airbag systems.

Matthew brought his broad range of design, production and manufacturing engineering skills to Hawkins in 2007. His understanding of engineering and the automotive industry is ideally suited to his work, which involves, amongst other things, engineering failures and road traffic accidents.

Matthew is an Associate based in the Birmingham office.
