Experience

Neil has in excess of 20 years of experience in engineering, which commenced with employment by the Racal Group as a Design and Development Engineer. He was responsible for the mechanical design of terrestrial and airborne communications equipment to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Aviation Authority.

Neil then joined the Formula 1 racing division of Cosworth Engineering where he undertook research and designed components for the world championship winning engine that powered the Benetton F1 racing cars. As part of that work he investigated the causes of engine failures and developed the design of components to improve engine reliability and performance.

Neil's experience in investigating the causes of failures of automotive components and systems continued with his employment with Hawkins & Associates during which time his work has involved many different types of vehicles from motorcycles to large goods vehicles. He is also very experienced in the investigation of road traffic collisions, vehicle stability, tyre failures, failures of structures and engineering plant, hydraulic and pneumatic system malfunctions and fires in buildings and vehicles.

Neil is very familiar with the litigation process and has given expert evidence in Magistrates, County, Crown, Appeal and High courts. He also has experience of mediation. He is listed as an expert in the Expert Witness Directory.

Neil is currently a Senior Associate and the Training Manager for Hawkins. He is based in the companys Cambridge Office.
