Experience

Richard began his career working at Nortel Networks as a research engineer during the industrial placement of his sandwich degree course. Richard's research work on tracking filters for optical communications systems was extended into a digital control systems project for his degree, for which Nortel awarded him a Bursary.

After graduating, Richard returned to work for Nortel in 1996 where he undertook exploratory experiments and prototype system construction in various areas of research including improving optical communication system capacity, performance and control. This work utilised his skills in analogue and digital electronic control systems and real time microprocessor system design and programming. It also included working closely with clients during their own exploratory work. Toward the end of his time at Nortel, Richard became involved in the non-linear simulation of optical transmission systems aimed at optimising their reach, capacity and cost.

In 2004, Richard joined Hawkins as a Forensic Investigator, specialising in the investigation of fires, explosions and electrical engineering losses.

Richard has undertaken many forensic investigations of fires both in the UK and overseas. He has also investigated electric shocks, electrical engineering failures and also losses involving intruder alarm systems and electronic control equipment.

Richard is currently manager of the London office.
