Stuart Whitehead - Profile

Stuart Whitehead profileHow long have you been with Hawkins?
I joined the company on 1 April 2003; the same day as Iain Woodward.

What are your specialisms?
Road Traffic Accident reconstruction and engineering

How did you come to join the company?
I answered an advert in the Telegraph looking for someone with experience in the automotive industry.

What was your ambition?
To find a job which I want to get up and do every day.

If you could be anything other than human for a day what would it be?
A dog. We have a Springer Spaniel and a Labrador and they seem to have the best life in the world. I am not too worried about talking with them: I don't think there is a huge amount of intellectual thought going on!

MP3, CD or Vinyl?
MP3 at home. All the cds are in the loft having been downloaded, although I do have a few cds left that I use in the car. I am in the process of 'ripping' all of my vinyl to MP3.

Any hobbies?
Most of my time is taken up with family duties at home; my daughter Francesca will be 2 in July and there are the aforementioned dogs to be walked. Our house is also rather old, part of the cellar is dated at 996 AD. Consequently there is always something to do. Before taking on the house project and starting a family my interests were firmly centred on old cars and motorsport. I owned and restored two classic Porsches; a 356 and a 911. Unfortunately both were sold to finance the house move. I also used to compete in sprints and hillclimbs with a Ford Escort Mexico. I have managed to keep hold of the Ford and am currently carrying out some work on it so that I can do a few events again later this year.

What is your favourite: comedy, drama or musical?
Has to be comedy. I can say that I despise all musicals.

Favourite place to holiday and why?
A small place in the central Majorca called Algaida. No British, no tourists and the locals even speak Mallorquin rather than Catalan. No-one speaks English and there isn't a picture menu in sight. Really away from it all.

What would you do with £1m?
Pay off the mortgage, of course. Other than that, I would love to build a large garage and then fill it with a few choice cars.

What CD are you currently listening to in your car?
I have wide musical tastes and this might be anything from Jools Holland to Prodigy or Pink Floyd to the Chemical Brothers.

Who is your hero, and why?
I have never had one particular hero. I find that ordinary people who do something heroic are the most inspirational.
