Paul has more than 25 years of experience in the refinery and petrochemical industry ranging from process engineering to operational management. His career started with the process consultancy, KBC Advanced Technology where he was involved in refinery improvement studies and optimisation programmes using computer simulations.
Paul then joined BP Chemicals in Grangemouth, Scotland, where he held various positions including Production Engineer for one of the large ethylene crackers on the site and Works Shift Manager for the chemicals complex. During his time in Scotland he investigated a number of process incidents, frequently using his findings to design plant improvements. Within the Shift Manager role he was Incident Scene Commander which provided valuable experience in managing process plant incidents and first-hand experience of how they can rapidly develop.
In 2002 Paul moved to Castrol to take up the role of UK Manufacturing Manager and was the leading authority for control of work across the BP Lubricants sites in Europe. The Ellesmere Port site closure in 2009 provided an opportunity to join Shell at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex where he held a number of senior leadership roles and continued his work on process incident investigation. In 2012 Paul started a short tenure as plant manager for a private waste lubricating oil re-refinery before joining Hawkins in 2014.
Paul now works as a Fire & Explosions investigator out of our Manchester office.
