Dr Jake Irwin Speaks at the 2018 CILA Conference

The 2018 CILA Conference at the Nottingham Belfry hotel on Thursday 20 September provided attendees with a full day of presentations, networking and thought-provoking material from various companies within the claims industry. Hawkins sponsors both the Liability Special Interest Group and the International Group. As well as Loss Adjusters, the attendees were forensic engineers, damage mitigation experts, insurers, solicitors, and industry charities.

Hawkins investigator, Dr Jake Irwin of the Birmingham Office, gave one of the day’s ten presentations entitled, Keeping Safe - Risk Assessment & Site Safety. This topic has been a focus of many recent Hawkins talks, and its subject matter will always be relevant to the loss-adjusting and claims-handling industries. The talk provided examples of situations, where industry professionals can be exposed to dangerous situations, as well as how to avoid them. A discussion on essential personal protection equipment was also included. Dr Irwin joined Hawkins in 2012 and has investigated both domestic and large‑scale commercial losses from fires to chemical contamination.

Hawkins’ Marketing team, Marta Dimitrova, Stephanie Feeley and Business Development Manager Graeme Drysdale, spent the day meeting clients and taking questions at our stand. We were pleased to hand out copies of our new Civil Engineering department brochure, as well as some equipment that loss adjusters can use on their next loss.

The marketing team is pictured with incoming CILA President, Mr Luke Exford of Sedgwick (left) and the current President Mr John Eves of Thornton & Partners (right). Hawkins also provided a chance to win a bottle of champagne at our stand, and send congratulations to our winner, Mr Stephen Manley, Regional Director of Crawford & Co, Manchester.

The day’s events concluded with a drinks reception, which Hawkins sponsored, followed by the CILA awards dinner. Hawkins extends congratulations to each winner, and plans to be present at CILA events in the future.
