Hawkins, in conjunction with FOIL (the Forum of Insurance Lawyers), recently delivered a presentation entitled Claims in the Modern World for London Market solicitors.
The event was held in the Grange City Hotel and comprised two topical presentations delivered by experts from Hawkins followed by a humorous talk on currently legal issues given by Prof. Dominic Regan of The New Law Journal.
The speakers were introduced by the Chief Executive of FOIL, Laurence Besemer who reminded attending solicitors about the available CPD points.
Dr Richard Fletcher of Hawkins spoke enthusiastically about the investigation and causes of fires in white goods with a particular focus on tumble dryer fires.
He was followed by Dr Andrew Moncrieff, also of Hawkins. Andrew’s topic was Improbable Causes. He discussed how science assists the Court in deciding on the cause of an incident when there is no clear evidence. He made reference to precdent, Sherlock Holmes and Ockham’s Razor.
Prof. Regan entertained the audience with legal anecdotes, commentary on current cases before the courts and the importance of costs estimating for parties engaged in litigation.
Following the conclusion of the presentations, speakers and attendees enjoyed a good networking opportunity at the drinks reception hosted jointly by FOIL and Hawkins.
