Hawkins attends the Asian Claims Convention 2018

On Thursday 12 and Friday 13 April 2018 Dr David Rose, Dr John Allum and Dr Sophie Parsons attended the two-day Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters’ (AICLA) Asian Claims Convention in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The schedule included presentations from both loss adjusters and forensic experts, on topics ranging from marine claims, to growing travel needs for investigators within Indonesia, to broader subjects such as the necessary industry adaptations to current technology and law. Dr Allum gave a presentation on Thursday morning, entitled Tweeters vs Luddites - Technology in Claims.

Mr Tony Liebke, Chief Executive of AICLA asked Dr Allum, “What is the precise difference between acting independently and acting impartially?”

John Allum presents at the ACC18 in Bali

Dr Allum responded that, "Independence is about how the corporation behaves in relation to a claim/matter, whereas impartiality is about how the individual expert avoids bias."

There was a persistent and global theme on the emerging technical aspects of claim handling in many of the presentations featured.  Dr Parsons has said that this conference is the largest loss adjuster event that Hawkins attends in this region, and we hope that associates from the Singapore and Hong Kong offices are able to deliver presentations at the conference’s proposed location of Phnom Penh, Cambodia for ACC 2019.
