Hawkins on Wheels!

Hawkins’ forensic engineers Lisa Beck, of the Reigate Office, and Charles Murdoch, of the London Office, not only investigate incidents involving bicycles and motorcycles—but also race them.

Lisa Beck cycling in the Appenninica

Lisa Beck recently took part in the Appenninica MTB Stage Race, which takes place along the Apennine divide between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, Italy. Both male and female solo riders race in either a general category or age group classification. Lisa said it was a challenging, but beautiful ride. “I did my best to finish this event, and in the end finished 5 of the 7 days. It was great fun and yes I’ll be going back next year. As well as being a cycling enthusiast and keen racer, Lisa regularly investigates cases involving damaged and faulty bicycles, combining her years of passion and skill in the sport with her technical knowledge and mechanical engineering expertise.

Charles racing in the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club Championship

Charles Murdoch also raced recently with the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club ('CRMC'), which meets in the UK seven times per year. Charles competed in both the Classic 250 European & Twins Championship and the Classic 350 Twins Championship, and won the Classic 250 class in the Club Championship for 2021.He says, although it is nominally a ‘club championship’, the standard of racing is very high. “The most competitive classes include the classic 350s and the classic 500s, because those classes race at the Isle of Man Classic TT against the professional racers, including Michael Rutter, Lee Johnston and John McGuinness, and sometimes even beat them.”

The above photo was taken at Donnington racetrack for the Nov/Dec 2021 Issue of Classic Racer. Charles won his class in all four races and came 3rd overall. Hawkins has previously sponsored races at Donnington, and Charles has investigated many road traffic collisions (RTC) involving motorcycles and injuries to riders. His experience with the maintenance, protective clothing, and of course speed associated with motorcycles, makes him an especially knowledgeable and qualified RTC investigation expert.

Hawkins would like to congratulate both Charles and Lisa for taking on these challenging races, and for, of course, always wearing the correct safety gear whilst on wheels.
