Hawkins investigator Patrick Barbour completed the Cardiff Half Marathon for the second time, raising sponsorship money for the Autism base at his son’s school.
The day was cloudy and wet, and a real contrast to the previous year when it was sunny and (too) warm, but the course was the same. It starts outside Cardiff Castle then, after passing through an industrial area, goes along the barrage between Cardiff Bay and the sea. Before heading back into the city, the run goes around Roath Park and finishes at the Civic Centre, mercifully taking in very few hills.
Patrick beat his previous time of 1 hour 59 minutes by 7 minutes. There were over 19,000 runners and big crowds to cheer them on.
Our Reigate Office Manager Helen Child also recently completed the 10K Kempton Park Race for Life, for Cancer Research UK. Women and girls were invited to walk, jog, or run while dressed in festive pink. The money raised will support research into over 200 kinds of cancer.
The race was a double lap under the hot sun around the racetrack in Surrey’s Kempton Park. Helen beat the heat and completed her first 10K in just over 1 hour. She hopes to return to the track next summer.
