16th July 2018
On 11 and 12 June 2018, Dr Nick Carey, Mr Paul Willis and Mr Nico Zurcher attended the two day International Cargo Insurance Conference in Oxford. Approximately 220 people from the cargo market were in attendance, with about 60%-70% of attendees being based in the United Kingdom.
This was ICIC’s fifth year, and Nico found that the conference, “struck a good balance between serious market discussions and a collegial, tight-knit atmosphere.”
Dr Nick Carey gave a presentation on his investigation of the Cutty Sark clipper ship fire in a presentation titled: “Historic Vessel and Modern Techniques”. Hawkins also sponsored the event and in particular the conference Midnight Feast. The Hawkins attendees enjoyed demonstrations and presentations from many other companies both already part of, and hoping to get involved in, the cargo community.
Hawkins hopes to both sponsor and send representatives to the ICIC next year, including someone to give a presentation on a new subject matter, possibly materials failure.
