Hawkins Welcomes Electrical Engineer Dave Millett

Hawkins is pleased to announce that Dave Millett has joined our team of electrical engineers.

Dave has a degree in Computer and Control Systems from Coventry Polytechnic and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers (CIBSE)

Dave spent the first 7 years of his career at Trend Controls designing, programming, project managing and commissioning building management systems, including installations in buildings such as the National Theatre and the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. This was followed by 7 years as a contract engineer in the same field, when he was responsible for projects such as the Cardiff International Arena, and writing the Windows front end for the lighting system at the Manchester Arena. He moved onto Dalkia Utilities, where for 7 years he was responsible for the unattended automatic control systems for industrial plant such as air compressors, steam boilers and generators.

After a couple of years at Integral Controls, working on building management systems, he spent 9 years at Edina UK Ltd. Dave designed installations for gas-fired internal combustion engine generators ranging from 400 kWE to 20 MWE, fuelled with biogas (or natural gas) and used in anaerobic digestion or combined heat and power applications. This design work included: surveying the site for space and access constraints; the mechanical and electrical installation of the gas fuel system; combustion and cooling ventilation; heat recovery; and exhaust systems. The installations ranged from containerised machines on outdoor sites to installations in existing listed buildings.

This was followed by 2 years working for the Danish company Orsted (formerly DONG Energy), designing and costing green energy solutions, to be funded and operated by the company, for industrial clients. He also provided a technical consultancy service for the division across the UK, Germany and Denmark to advise on the systems needed to deliver the service.

Dave has also been an Associate member of the Association of British Theatre Technicians, having spent many years, designing, building and painting sets, working with pyrotechnics and stage effects, as well as initiating a number of improvements to stage safety. Some years ago Dave was invited to apply for full membership, and continues to work in amateur theatre, specialising in lighting and sound, holding the position of resident Technical Director for two local societies.

Dave is now a Senior Associate based in our Manchester office.
