Hawkins Welcomes Electrical Engineer Tom Madden

Hawkins is pleased to announce that Tom Madden has joined our expanding team of Electrical Engineers.

After completing his Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Bristol, Tom joined Babcock, the defense engineering services company, on the graduate scheme as an Assistant Electrical and Electronic Engineer. This role provided Tom the opportunity to work across a wide range of projects from the nuclear sector to submarines, and he took on a variety of different roles, ranging from circuit board design to safety interlocking. Tom also undertook a secondment to an operation improvement consultancy focused on delivering efficiency savings at the Devonport Dockyard.

After completing the graduate scheme, Tom specialised in developing Torpedo Launch Control Systems for Submarines, and led the development and delivery of a new control system that encompassed a unique modular and reusable approach, using both bespoke and commercial electronic and software components.

Tom moved into the field of Systems’ Engineering in order to maximize his experience gained across the complete project lifecycle, as well as to apply this to a new discipline, High Frequency Communications. Tom gained the grade of Principal Engineer in 2016, while leading a multidisciplinary team to produce an automated control and management system, controlling a wide range of HF technologies.

In July 2014 Tom obtained his Chartership with the IET and has provided mentoring and guidance to others going through this process.

Tom joined Hawkins in February 2019 as an Associate based in our Bristol Office
