Hawkins was pleased to sponsor Mike Bond of vrs Vericlaim, and President of the Insurance Institute of Sheffield, when he ran an off-road marathon recently in aid of charity.
During his term as President, Mike is raising funds for Weston Park Cancer Hospital, Sheffield, one of only four dedicated cancer hospitals in the country and which treats patients from the Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Worksop and Chesterfield areas as well as Sheffield.
The marathon, which Mike has named The Dark Peak Grueller, took place on Sunday 15 June 2014. It began just off a trans Pennine pass and followed the Dark Peak District in Derbyshire for a distance of 22 miles to Edale, with a total ascent of 4,500 feet. Mike was accompanied on the marathon by Keith Wakeley of Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team. Mike’s wife, Karen, acted as support, meeting them at car parks along the way with refreshments.
So far Mike has raised over £1,000 for the charity, but further donations are welcome and can be made at:www.justgiving.com/Mike-Bond1
