In September, Chartered Engineers Andrew Reeves and Graham Cooper attended the “Focus on Asia Conference” hosted by the Singapore Society of Construction Law. Andrew is pictured (above) speaking to Sir Vivian Ramsey, the keynote speaker of the conference. Hawkins was privileged to be a Gold Sponsor of the very successful and informative event.
This was the 2nd Annual Focus on Asia Conference, and took place over two days at the Hotel Fort Canning in Singapore. The conference attracted many other engineers, as well as architects, developers, contractors, consultants and lawyers associated with the industry. Topics presented throughout the conference focused on the lifecycle and developments in technology throughout international construction projects. Sir Ramsey’s keynote speech centred on the Belt And Road Initiative, which was referred to as the, “World’s most ambitious infrastructure project.”
Aside from discussions on current design challenges, there were also speeches focused on construction law and liability within the field. One debate concentrated on whether or not construction contracts, “tend to allocate project risks to the most appropriate party.”
In any construction claim it is necessary to understand what has occurred, why and what can be done to remedy the situation, and this requires the expertise of a forensic investigator. Hawkins engineers have experience in investigating a wide variety of construction issues, including collapses of retaining walls and temporary works, unforeseen ground conditions, the incorrect uses of building materials, premature demolition failures, and personal injuries.
