									<p>Stewart joined Hawkins in 2023 bringing a wealth of marine-related knowledge and experience.</p><p>Stewart gained his UK Master Mariners Certificate of Competency in 1991. He achieved this whilst sailing with Canadian Pacific on their Crude, Product and Chemical tankers with the carriage of oil, chemical and vegetable oils cargoes. He has also sailed on bulk, forest products, and container vessels.</p><p>Thereafter Stewart became a Port Captain with a chemical tanker company, and was responsible for attending incidents and performing intensive port, cargo, and tank-cleaning operations. He also attended grounding incidents and was involved in preventing pollution as part of the Emergency Response Team.</p><p>Stewart then gained his LLM degree in Legal Aspects of Mariner Affairs from the University of Wales, College Cardiff in 1994. Following this, he was appointed as a Marine Superintendent/Marine Manger of an oil/chemical tanker company handling oil, chemical, asphalt, and high-heat coal tar pitch with ongoing experience in incidents and undertaking inspections. During this period, Stewart also managed voyage and time charters, and charter party claim aspects.</p><p>Stewart has worked as a Marine Consultant since 1999, attending numerous incidents and providing advice on a wide range of marine matters including liquid and bulk cargoes, bunkers, container vessels, oil and chemical tankers, and bulk carriers. Stewart provided expert advice on the handling and carriage of liquid and bulk cargoes under the applicable IMO Codes and recognised industry guidelines and standards. Stewart also developed strategies for safe shipping of both methane-emitting and self-heating coals, from loading and voyage management, through to providing a discharge strategy</p><p>Stewart has given evidence in the High Court and at Arbitration in United Kingdom, Oslo and Singapore on the carriage and handling of cargo, navigation, groundings, tanker operations, ship vetting, ship management and general shipboard operations including ship-to-ship (STS) transfers.</p>								</div>

Robert has lectured extensively on analytical, environmental and corrosion chemistry. He was the course leader for the University&#8217;s MSc Analytical Chemistry course and was an assessor for the Higher Education Funding Council (Wales). Robert also gave annual lecture courses and workshops in Universities in Thailand, where he was a visiting lecturer. Since joining Hawkins in 2001, Robert has specialised in post-fire, post-flood and post-chemical spill contamination investigations throughout the world. This work involves determining the effects of contaminants on buildings, production equipment, complex computer systems and products, including food stuffs, and providing advice on the long term effects of the contaminants and best remediation techniques for recovery. <p>Robert is currently a Principal Associate based in the Manchester office as well as Hawkins&#8217; Operations Director.</p>
