Following completion of her Diploma, Lisa worked for a large wine co-operative in the Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa. She left the industry to study further and obtained her Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with honours in 1997. Lisa is presently working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer with the IMechE.
After graduating Lisa worked in the steel recycling industry gaining experience of heavy engineering plant and equipment. She then moved to John Thompson Boilers, a division of Alstom in South Africa, as a design engineer of water tube boilers in sugar production and small scale (9MW) power generation. Her experience ranged from heat transfer equipment and boiler thermal and combustion performance, to high temperature pressure vessels and steam piping to turbines on projects south of the equator in Africa.
Lisa immigrated to the UK and joined Hawkins in 2007 as an Associate fire and engineering investigator in the Reigate office. She has investigated fires ranging from domestic to large industrial incidents, and engineering losses ranging from personal injuries involving ladders, to large engineering equipment failures. She has also investigated various bicycle related incidents, drawing on her personal passion for the sport.
