Marine Cargo Spoilage and Fire and Explosion Specialist, Jessica Ng, celebrates her 10th anniversary at Hawkins. Jessica joined our Hong Kong office in 2015, specialising in fire and explosion investigation, contamination assessments, and agricultural cargo claims. Since joining Hawkins, she has investigated the causes of fires in both residential and commercial properties, as well as on board vessels in Hong Kong and overseas. Her work includes assessing contamination in buildings, manufacturing equipment, and stock and lift/escalator components following fires and floods.
Jessica has investigated over 200 cases in her time at Hawkins, and has provided advice on ‘live’ ship fires involving cargoes such as coal and other agricultural products. She has investigated the causes of cargo contamination on tankers and been involved in cases involving the liquefaction of Group A cargo, which includes witnessing laboratory tests to determine the cargo’s moisture content and flow moisture point. She has previously presented a webinar on Spontaneous Combustion of Oily Rags and also written an article on Cargo Liquefaction and how to mitigate the risks.
Commenting on her time at Hawkins, Jessica says “I love the unique blend of hands-on detective work and rigorous scientific analysis that forensic investigation demands. Every scene is a like a puzzle; interpreting patterns, collecting evidence, and reconstructing the story of how a fire began and spread. From small residential fires to complex industrial blazes, the variety of cases has kept each day engaging and fuelled my passion for continuous learning in this field. Ten years of investigating fires, and I still haven’t found the ‘easy’ button. Maybe it’s hidden under the debris.”
