John Holland interviewed in the Irish Broker

The role of a forensic investigator is often misconstrued owing to how it is depicted on TV and other forms of media, but it is crucial for identifying the root cause of an issue. Regional Director for Ireland, John Holland was recently interviewed in the Irish Broker Magazine following Hawkins’ strategic expansion into Ireland and his role as a forensic investigator.

John addressed some common misconceptions about forensic work, explaining that CSI or Silent Witness do not accurately reflect the daily realities of the job. Forensic investigations often involve challenging conditions, such as exposure to the elements and confined spaces, and can be emotionally demanding due to the human impact of incidents.

John highlighted that a forensic investigation can significantly influence a case by providing early, scientifically robust interpretations of technical issues, enabling informed decisions on liability. Hawkins prioritises honesty, integrity, and impartiality, ensuring rapid site attendance, rigorous scientific analysis, and expert evidence in court when necessary.

He concluded the interview by stating that everyone, including Brokers, can avail the services of Hawkins. Instructions from brokers typically come from claims departments, but occasionally from brokers themselves concerned about exposure to claims on their professional indemnity insurance. John’s interview can be read in the Irish Broker on page 37.

John specialises in the investigation of fires, explosions, escapes of fluid, building damage resulting from water ingress, engineering failures, personal injuries, and road traffic accidents. His level of experience in the design of heavy-duty off-road vehicles gives him a unique insight into incidents involving HGVs. In 2024, he moved back to Ireland from Glasgow to help with our expansion in the Island of Ireland.
