Fire & Explosions
20 Years- Russel Smith

This month, we proudly celebrate a major milestone for  Russ Smith, who marks  two decades of dedicated service at Hawkins. Since joining in 2005, Russ has become a leading figure in fire investigation and is also the Quality Manager at Hawkins.

Russ’s journey began with the  Avon & Somerset Constabulary, where he served as a Scenes of Crime Officer  and later as  Team Leader  of the Scientific Support Fire Investigation Team. His move to Hawkins brought that wealth of experience to our growing team, where he has since investigated over 1200 cases, ranging from small fires in domestic properties to large fires in commercial buildings, as well as the investigation of suspected fraudulent insurance claims.

As Quality Manager at Hawkins, Russ plays a vital role in maintaining our high standards of scientific integrity and operational excellence. He is also a respected Principal Associate, mentoring junior investigators and sharing his expertise through lectures and training sessions. Russ has presented on topics ranging from evidence preservation to the role of DNA in forensic science, and most recently led a webinar on fraud and deliberate fire setting.
