Liam graduated with First Class Honours in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Leeds. During his degree, he worked with Sellafield Ltd., developing design solutions to improve the operation of various plants at the Sellafield nuclear waste storage and reprocessing site in Cumbria.
For his PhD, Liam investigated the impact of rapid solidification processing on phase transformations in a new class of metal alloys known as high-entropy alloys. His research involved using a range of characterisation techniques, including optical and electron microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) spectroscopy, and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), to assess how cooling rates affect alloy microstructure and properties. He also employed thermodynamic modelling methods to predict alloy phase transformation behaviour.
Liam joined Hawkins in November 2025 as an Associate based in our Glasgow office.Â
