We are delighted to announce that Neville Tranter has been conferred the title of Honorary Assistant Professor in Engineering within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Birmingham.

This recognition reflects Neville’s outstanding contributions to the field of engineering. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, having built a distinguished career in materials science and engineering failure analysis.

Neville began his journey in engineering by earning a BEng (Hons) in Metallurgy from the University of Birmingham, followed by an MSc in Forensic Engineering and Science from Cranfield University. His early career included working as a Graduate Heat Treatment Engineer at Wallwork Heat Treatment, where he developed expertise in hazardous environments, and at Intertek Plc, where he managed Rolls-Royce’s outsourced metallurgical laboratory. During his time at Intertek, Neville conducted over 100 metallurgical and failure investigations across sectors such as oil and gas, medical devices, rail systems, and consumer products.

He later joined Goodrich Corporation as a Materials Engineer, focusing on aerospace actuation systems, before moving to Hawkins, where he currently serves as a Principal Associate in the Birmingham office. At Hawkins, Neville has specialised in investigating engineering failures, including those involving gas turbines, construction materials, and power systems.

Please join us in congratulating Neville on this well-earned recognition. We are confident that he will bring valuable insight and expertise to the academic community at the University of Birmingham.
