Earlier this month, Hawkins welcomed clients and colleagues to The Merchant Hotel in Belfast for an afternoon of forensic insight, professional development, and networking, delivered in partnership with Crawford & Company.
The CILA-accredited CPD presentation, From Collapse to Cleanup, examined a major warehouse racking collapse and the chain of consequences that followed, exploring the technical, legal and practical challenges arising from the incident.
Forensic CPD: From Collapse to Cleanup
Guests were guided through the complex, multidisciplinary investigation starting with the collapse of the warehouse racking system and then moving on to the subsequent contamination risks posed by potentially hazardous substances, the personal injury considerations arising from the incident, reconstruction and remediation works, and the assessment of financial losses.
The expert panel considered liability exposures and the apportionment of responsibility across the incident, providing attendees with insight into how different disciplines work together on complex claims.
Presenters included Hawkins experts Dr Christabel Evans, who discussed material failures and root-cause analysis, Ellie Hurley, who addressed the personal injury aspects of the case, and Dr Mehul Jesani, who explained chemical spill management and remediation. Our colleague, Nigel Jackson of A.Lamb Associates, examined the quantum of loss associated with reconstruction and remedial works, while John Gallen, Loss Adjuster at Crawford & Company, shared his perspective on the collaboration between loss adjusters and forensic experts when managing complex claims.

Following the presentation, guests enjoyed a networking reception with drinks and canapés, providing an opportunity to continue discussions and connect with colleagues from across the industry.
Attendees were also able to explore a range of exhibits from Hawkins casework, view drone footage from real investigations, and experience immersive 3D incident models using VR headsets, offering a closer look at the technologies and techniques used in modern forensic investigations.
