Yang Dang presents to AICLA

Structural failures can lead to devastating outcomes, including damage, collapse or even loss of life. For professionals in engineering, construction, insurance and law, understanding the causes of these failures and how to prevent them is crucial. Forensic Civil and Structural Engineer, Yang Dang was recently invited to present a webinar on structural failures, to AICLA members in Singapore.

Yang discussed how forensic engineers determine failure mechanisms through site inspections, material testing, and advanced structural analysis. He included a review of a racking failure from a Hawkins case, detailing the steps he had taken to determine the root cause of the failure and highlighted that reviewing installation documents and post construction survey results are often a good starting point. He concluded with an overview of common causes that can lead to structural failures, including design flaws, construction defects and extreme loading events.

Yang is an ASEAN Chartered Engineer with 14 years’ experience as a structural engineer. He has extensive experience on a wide spectrum of projects in the commercial, industrial, residential, and infrastructure spheres. He has practical knowledge of geotechnical engineering, including foundations and temporary earth stabilising structures.

If you would like Yang to present to your organisation or investigate a civil or structural failure, please get in touch.
