Rob graduated from the University of Bath in 2011 with a First Class Masters in Chemical Engineering. During that time he studied in New Zealand for half a year and conducted research on membranes. He also worked at ExxonMobil for a year, primarily focusing on utilities that powered the refinery.
The majority of Rob’s career has been chemical and pharma based. Fourteen years of it was spent at Croda and one year at Public Health England. He has designed, installed and commissioned plants ranging from a COVID-19 project that vaccinated 15% of the world to a 400 barg supercritical carbon dioxide plant. He has designed multiple plants from scratch starting with PFD development, P&IDs, the hazard study process, automation and it’s implementation overseeing electrical and piping installs, to then commissions with water, solvents and products. Many plants were Atex rated for hazardous areas, both gas and dust, and he was responsible for the DSEAR assessments for these.
The majority of these major projects are pharma and were validated to GMP. The plants have been inspected by the FDA and MHRA and meet stringent standards.
Rob has project managed jobs in the UK and Denmark and is actively consulted in industry. As well as chemical and pharma, he has experience with equipment removal and re-installation, having bought and relocated fermentation plants including full DCS systems.
Rob is a Chartered Engineer and accomplished hazard study leader, specialising in Hazard Studies 0-7 and LOPA. He has a Postgraduate Certificate in Hazard Study Leading from the University of Derby, as well as NEBOSH.Â
