Michael joined Hawkins in November 2024 after sixteen years with German utility RWE. A graduate of Mechatronic Engineering from Lancaster University, in 2006 Michael was named the Most Enterprising Student in Herefordshire and Worcestershire for his work in vehicle homologation during a Shell Step placement at automotive consultancy ACS International.

Michael’s career started on RWE’s graduate training scheme which included placements at Great Yarmouth Power Station and the Offshore Wind Operations & Maintenance hub in Mostyn, North Wales. He subsequently held posts in electrical engineering with their consultancy in Swindon, at Aberthaw Power Station and Little Barford Power Station, in addition to a secondment at Pembroke Power Station during its construction and commissioning.

His experience lies principally in the operation and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment including generators, motors, transformers, cables and uninterruptible power systems. Michael was also the Lead Technical Officer for lightning protection and earthing for RWE’s fleet of UK-based CCGT, CHP and biomass power stations, and has presented at the EuroDoble and Life of a Transformer seminars on quantitative approaches to spares risk management.
