BSC (Hons)   Applied Chemistry

PhD   The development of infrared active sensors for the measurement of inhomogeneous systems

MRSC   Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry

Will started his career in science with an industrial placement during his third year at University. The twelve months were spent working for Wacker Chemie in Germany where he undertook a wide range of analytical chemistry work as well as developing on-line monitoring processes for large scale chemical reactions. His final year project was spent at The University of New Mexico where he worked on the development of metal alloy membranes for the selective filtering of gases.

After completing his degree, Will continued to study at Nottingham Trent University for his PhD. His work involved the development of sensors immobilised on silica supports. This also allowed for the synthesis of novel molecular sensors that could be interrogated using infrared spectroscopy.

After leaving University, Will worked for the Forensic Science Service based in Huntingdon. He worked as a Senior Forensic Scientist for nine years and specialised in the fields of trace evidence and fire investigation. During that time Will was involved in a large variety of cases including high profile murders and sexual assaults. He has been awarded a Police Commendation for one such murder case. Will has also been involved in the development and delivery of forensic training packages to overseas police forces. In his role as a Senior Forensic Scientist, Will has regularly attended court as an expert witness and has a strong understanding of the Criminal Justice System.

Will joined Hawkins in 2010 and since that time he has investigated fires in domestic and commercial premises as well as vehicle fires.

Will is a Senior Associate based our Leeds office.
